MSUSA Alumni Association Update - March 2010

Chair Applications Currently Being Accepted
The Alumni Association Board has extended it's deadline to receive applications for Chair of the Alumni Association Board until June 2010. Applications can be downloaded here and sent to Dusty Finke, Alumni Association Secretary/Treasurer.

Mentorship Program
Three students have been paired with MSUSA Alumni to start the Mentorship Pilot Program through Spring 2010. Pairs are matched based upon interest, skills, availability, and level and type of contact. All interested alumni are encouraged to participate. Applications to serve as a mentor can be completed here. A presentation about the evaluation of the pilot program will be made to the MSUSA students in Fall 2010.

Spring BBQ and St. Paul Saints Game
The Alumni Association Board is planning a spring BBQ to welcome new graduates. Tentatively, mark your calendars for Saturday, May 15th. The Alumni Association will be hosting a BBQ prior to the St. Paul Saints game at 7:05 p.m. Additional details will be sent out soon.

"Living with Student Debt" Campaign
As part of the Alumni Association's advocacy efforts, they are currently working toward a "Living with Student Debt" campaign, which will collect stories from alumni of Minnesota's state universities about what it's like to pay off high debt loads after graduation. This information will be given to Legislators during the 2011 legislative session and shared with the media. Please watch for more information about how you can participate in the future.

Tim Huebsch Receives 40 under Forty Award
Tim Huebsch served as the MSU, Mankato Student Body Vice President, an MSUSA Delegate, and is currently the MSU, Mankato Alumni Association President. Tim is featured this month in our Alumni Association Spotlight.

He also works at General Mills' where he is the IS department manger for the Consumer Internet Application Content Team, and was named in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal's 17th annual "40 under 40." The list recognizes fast-rising leaders for their unique professional and community contributions. He is also a past Humphrey Institute Policy Fellow and Leadership Twin Cities participant.

Wine Tasting to Benefit Jared P. Stene Student Leadership Scholarship
On Sunday, May 16th, Solo Vino Wines in Saint Paul will be holding it's 2nd Annual Rose Wine Tasting. A portion of the ticket price will be donated to the JPS Scholarship! You can purchase your $25 ticket at www.solovinowines.com. Purchase them soon because they will sell out!

Penny Golf Scramble - Save the Date!
Join us on Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, MN for the 17th Annual Penny Golf Scramble. Shotgun start will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by a steak dinner and raffle. New this year will be a training clinic taught by the golf club pros from 2:00-4:00. The training clinic will cover all aspects of the game for new golfers. Click here to see a list of raffle items. Penny Program Seeks MSUSA Alumni Association Member
The Penny Program Advisory Board has one open seat for an MSUSA Alumni to serve in. This is a great opportunity to expand your professional contacts, learn new skills, and support a great cause. The application can be downloaded here.

MSUSA Conference: April 9th - 11th

Students will be meeting in Woodbury for their final MSUSA conference of the school year. At the conference all 2010-2011 officer positions will be elected, the Student Platform and budget will be approved, a small group of students traveling to Washington D.C. will be trained, and students will learn more about the Students First Initiative.
