MnSCU Board of Trustees Chair Scott Thiss announced today that the MnSCU system has received authorization from Governor Mark Dayton to continue normal operations in the event of a state government shutdown. Please see the official statement from MnSCU here.

However, even after this news we must still warn students of possible interruptions to processing financial aid and other functions that may not continue due to the government shutdown. As always we will keep you updated on any changes or when new information becomes available.

The Minnesota State University Student Association (MSUSA) will continue to work with the Governor, legislators, MnSCU and the Office of Higher Education to ensure that the impacts are minimal and students are treated fairly in the process.

Again, please stay up to date by checking your university website on a regular basis and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me at or 651-815-1196.

Legislative Update
The final day of the 2011 MN Legislative Session was Monday, May 23rd and ended without a budget agreement. The Higher Education bill (HF1110) was passed by the legislature, but vetoed by Governor Dayton. A few of the Governor's reasons for the vetoed bill include:
- Cuts to the MnSCU system are too deep - Tuition should be set by the Board of Trustees, not legislatively mandated A government shutdown would start on July 1st and last until a budget has been passed by the legislature and signed into law by the Governor.

MnSCU Foundation Golf Scramble
The MnSCU Foundation Golf Scramble will be held on Friday, June 24th at Oak Glen Golf Course
